Born from the desire to share our passion for books and literature with guests from all walks of life, Société des Hôtels Littéraires has a cultural objective, which is its raison d’être.

In Unesco’s 2030 Calendar, the dimension of culture is included as a keystone of sustainable development, with the idea of making it accessible to as many people as possible. To meet current societal challenges, and to contribute to general interest, our company has decided to put its resources at the service of this project.

Société des Hôtels Littéraires has therefore set itself the mission of making French literature accessible to a wider audience by making a hotel stay a literary and artistic journey of an author’s works.

To disseminate the works of famous French writers to its visitors. and to make them aware of new artistic worlds, our hotel offer includes creative cultural content, thereby contributing to the development of sustainable tourism.

The layout and decoration of each Hôtel Littéraire offers a sensorial staging of the life and works of a great writer, with the inclusion of multilingual libraries, original editions and artistic book bindings, manuscripts, period objects and contemporary art pieces, which are all on display in the common areas.

The hotel teams offer a privileged cultural service to their guests through the production of educational documentation and historical maps of the district, with walks to discover the local heritage, the defence of the book trades (bookbinders, gilders and typographers), and the organisation of various cultural events – exhibitions, book signings, plays, readings and concerts.

Each hotel promotes partnerships with the world of books and culture in its neighbourhood, from bookstores that supply its libraries to associations of writers’ friends, who host their meetings within its walls, and including publishing houses for the launch of new books, and libraries and museums to receive loans at the time of their exhibitions.

A stay at a hotel therefore becomes an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of books and literature. The Hôtels Littéraires also act as patrons, and become key cultural players in their city or in their neighbourhood, offering free and open access to their research and reading spaces and their collections, and for public events.

All the Hôtels Littéraires teams are involved in this societal and cultural mission, actively participating in its development through their desire to accept and transmit this literary passion, and each has the autonomy to promote local initiatives and creative investment.
