A Family Project

At the origin of the Hôtels Littéraire, there is a library! The one that Jacques Letertre, collector and bibliophile, has built over the years around his favorite writers.

With his son Alban, Jacques Letertre manages a group of characterful hotels. Together, they imagine decorating them around the universe of an author and displaying their family collection there: following the success of the venture, they create the Société des Hôtels Littéraires.

What is a literary hotel?

A personalized decoration

Each Hôtels Littéraire pays tribute to the life and work of a writer through an atmosphere that reinterprets the author's artistic universe and multiplies the nods capable of interesting and moving visitors during their stay.

The rooms are personalized around a character or a poem, a friend of the author or a beloved destination: its name is reflected inside by a chosen quote, an original watercolor by Jean Aubertin, and a book placed on the bedside table.

Which room will you choose? Sleep at the “Dame du Job” dear to Vialatte, with George Sand's heroine, Indiana, in the arms of Marcel Aymé's Vouivre, follow Rimbaud to "Ma Bohème," accompany Flaubert to Egypt, dream with Proust in Venice, or stroll with Stendhal on his Italian walks...?

Libraries of 500 Books

Five hundred books fill the multilingual libraries of each Hôtels Littéraire, inviting guests to (re)read the masterpieces of the greatest French writers.

A novel on the bedside table, a collection of poems at breakfast, a short story for the afternoon: here literature accompanies the traveler at every moment throughout their stay.

A Hotel-Museum

A collection of manuscripts and rare books

Each Hôtels Littéraire brings together, around its writer, a precious collection of original editions, art bindings, autograph letters, working manuscripts, drawings, photographs, and period objects…

Contemporary collections

In echo to this heritage, local and worldwide artists are invited to create contemporary works, as new interpretations of the author and their work.

Exhibitions

Living and ever-evolving, this collection is enriched, accessed by researchers, and travels thanks to loans granted for temporary exhibitions.

It is also the subject of thematic exhibitions within the Hôtels Littéraire, to better highlight its sometimes unpublished contents.

Living places

In addition to these exhibitions, the Hôtels Littéraire become cultural centers open to everyone, organizing literary evenings and award ceremonies, multiplying partnerships and meetings.

An online calendar lists these events and a blog offers various articles on the collections, interviews, and reading notes: to stay up to date with cultural events, subscribe to the monthly newsletter!
